The kids and I regularly go on hikes, visit local and state parks, and spend as much time as we can outside. Straddling the Mojave and Colorado Deserts, Joshua Tree National Park in California is an incredible and bizarre landscape of twisted rock, gigantic boulder piles, Joshua trees, and cacti.<\/p><p>The climate and geologic forces have created a \u201cplayground\u201d of sorts for those looking to explore, rock climb, hike, and adventure. We had no expectations going into our trip, but we were all excited to get outside, enjoy the adventure, and open our eyes again to the beauty of our natural world.<\/p><p>We had done some research regarding \u201cfamily friendly\u201d ways to enjoy the park, but were unsure how each of our four kids would do. Visiting Joshua Tree in the winter is a fantastic time of year to visit, with Summer temperatures soaring into the 110-120 degree range many days. That said, I\u2019ve found that certain terrain offers kids more joy than others. Seriously breathtaking views. Climbing, climbing, and more climbing. Then trying to figure out how to get down. HUGE BOULDERS becoming an incredible outdoor playground. Being together somewhere new.
